Accomplishments

After half a dozen successful fights as a Super Flyweight, Edwards won his first title – the WBO European title – in 2017. He remained unsubdued in the following years while accumulating a handful more titles. Edwards also moved down a division to Flyweight in 2021 where he received his first world title in the same year.

He immediately proved successful against his opponent Moruti Mthalane, and beat to claim his IBF world title. He retained his title twice after becoming a world Flyweight champion, beating both of his opponents by UD.

On November 11 in 2022, Edwards faced Felix Alvarado in the third defense of his IBF Flyweight title, and successfully cruised to a unanimous decision win over the Nicaraguan fighter.

Sunny Edwards defended his IBF title for the fourth time on June 10th against Chilean contender Andres Campos, winning by unanimous decision in the process.

Boxing Style

sunny edwards boxing style

Sunny Edwards, orthodox, has rightfully claimed a place amongst the elite of the division by winning his first world title as he has displayed high-level footwork, pinpoint accuracy, resilience and quickness in his latest fights. He is well-capable of gauging the distance between him and his opponent, allowing him to often outbox opponents at a distance without taking unnecessary damage.

Though he is not necessarily considered powerful, he has more than compensated his supposed lack of power with finely-developed boxing skills that has often allowed him to coast through fights while mostly remaining unblemished.
