Background
Dorticos had a successful amateur career as a Cruiserweight despite never winning a Gold medal. He won several bronze and silver medals both nationally and internationally, competing in tournaments such as the Cuban National Championships, the Strandzha Cup and the Cuban Olympiad.
Accomplishments
Starting his professional career as a Cruiserweight in 2009, Dorticos won several continental titles before challenging for the WBA Cruiserweight title in 2017 during the WBSS held in 2017 and 2018. He fell to Murat Gassiev in the semi-final of the tournament after beings topped in the twelfth round of their match.
In the second series of the WBSS for the Cruiserweight division held from 2018 to 2020, Yuniel Dorticos did much better, reaching all the way to the final but losing by a close majority decision to eventual winner Mairis Briedis in 2020.
Dorticos’ last fight was a stoppage victory over opponent Jesse Bryan in 2021.
