With the highly-anticipated rematch that was expected on May 20th between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano canceled due to the latter suffering a sudden injury, Matchroom Boxing has clearly put out all the stops to find a suitable replacement opponent. Not only did they do so, but they also found a fighter that make for an overwhelmingly exciting fight in Chantelle Cameron, the women’s Super Lightweight undisputed champion. The bout is now set to take place on May 20th in Katie Taylor’s home country of Ireland, with the venue set to be the 3Arena stadium in Dublin.

With Chantelle Cameron (17-0, 8 KO’s) having recently come off a momentous and historic victory over undisputed women’s Welterweight champion, Jessica McCaskill (12-3, 5 KO’s), last year in November at Junior Welterweight/Super Lightweight, Cameron is now set to replace Serrano on May 20th and will be as formidable of an opponent as Serrano, if not more. With both Katie Taylor (22-0, 6 KO’s) and Cameron eager to fight each other in what will become a clash between two undisputed champions in different divisions, women’s boxing is continuing the latest trend of setting up unprecedented blockbuster fights.

Katie Taylor is considered one of the best female boxers in the world with her current unbeaten record and victories over some of the best fighters of her era, including the likes of Delfine Persoon (47-3, 19 KO’s), Natasha Jonas (13-2-1, 8 KO’s) and Jessica McCaskill. She is the #1 pound-for-pound female boxer according to BoxRec, and the #2 on The Ring’s list of best female pound-for-pound fighters. Taylor’s last match saw her comfortably winning over Karen Elizabeth Carabajal (19-1, 2 KO’s), a worthy contender in the women’s Lightweight division who had been undefeated before coming across Katie Taylor.

Katie Taylor is also set to make her debut at Super Lightweight – after fighting at Lightweight for her entire career – where she will face the incumbent undisputed champion, Chantelle Cameron. whose titles will be put on the line. The prospect of a prime undisputed champion facing another marks another new historical moment in boxing that has yet to occur. Previously, Amanda Serrano was set to face Katie Taylor as the undisputed champion of the Featherweight division, but due to her injury, Chantelle Cameron has stepped up to fill the void and create history as she will enter the ring against another undisputed champion.
